Award-winning sculptor's work at Witton
Sited, as we are; in some of County Durham’s most beautiful countryside and parkland; woodland and wood, plays a large part in the natural surroundings at Witton Castle Country Park.
More unusual, are the wood-carvings, dotted around the park – all the work of Tommy Craggs; self-taught international award winning artist and sculptor, specialising in the art of wood sculpting.
Badgers, foxes and owls are commonplace at Witton, benefitting from the expansive natural environment as their home, however more of our guests are familiar with the wood versions, expertly carved by Tommy and part of the furniture at our family holiday park.
All of Tommy’s work is carved from trees that have either fallen naturally or trees that have become diseased or dangerous. He also uses trunks that have been sourced from sustainably managed forests.

Many photos have been captured of these carvings and quite rightly so, as these unique artworks are not hidden in a gallery but on display within the grounds at Witton Castle, where they shall remain for many years…
If you have photos of the wood-carvings here at Witton, we would love to share them on Instagram and Facebook – all you have to do is tag us!
